JUNIOR RUN SESSIONS – YOUNG GUNS + ACCELERATOR

We understand what it takes to be able to improve your running and take it to the next level as a junior runner. That’s why we have YOUNG GUNS and ACCELERATOR.

YOUNG GUNS is not only an Interval training session but an education on running, carefully structured and delivered professionally, by our passionate coaches.

ACCELERATOR offers all the benefits of YOUNG GUNS however is is specifically targeted towards training for runners of High School Age only with a focus on preparation for long distance events and Cross Country at a competitive level

Sessions in 2023

WEDNESDAY Young Guns 4pm Newcastle (Suitable for all ages)

MONDAY 4pm Young Guns Accelerator (High school age only) 4pm Charlestown area

 

Our runners range in age from 5-18 years generally, however as every young runner is unique we are flexible and will determine together with the parents the best session and or group for your aspiring athlete. We place an emphasis on skill and technique development for our young runners whilst always making sure the sessions are fun and relaxed!

We totally get that running those harder sessions by yourself can be difficult. Even those at the top of their chosen profession find that if they really want to improve and be challenged, a group environment is a huge advantage

YOUNG GUNS is a weekly running workout, which runs for approximately 60 minutes. The sessions follow a carefully planned and structured sequence of form, interval running, and basic strength exercises to allow young runners of varying abilities to be challenged, motivated and ultimately improve by becoming faster, stronger and more aware runners. Although each weekly session during the term is unique it follows a specific structure including gradual warm-up, dynamic warm-up incorporating drills, running, strengthening exercises a cool down – and of course lots of FUN!

Whilst we do cover shorter repetitions in some of our sessions, our overall running development is for juniors that are looking to improve fitness and target middle distance running events and Cross Country. Many of our runners progress through the school ranks of XC representation and we have runners annually that make it to Nationals Cross-County.

ACCELERATOR sessions offer additional support to Junior runners including race readiness development – Nutritional Advice – Functional Athlete Screening. Within a Term of Accelerator 2 of the sessions will be Gym only with the other 8 sessions being strength based in Term 4 and a mixture of Strength and Speed development in Term 1. All Athletes will be screened and given specific advise on the best strength and Conditioning and drills to complement their improved running performance – if this is decided to be of benefit in discussion between Coach and Parents (Seperate fee). By enrolling in the Accelerator program – runners get the Monday session and a choice of the Wednesday 4pm Young Guns class or the 6pm Thursday Mytrailgroup adult squad + a bonus Term workshop on Nutrition/Mental strength
