Congratulations! Due to our amazing partner at Running Science in Rozelle , together with Runlab and Milestone POD we have teamed up to give you a POD. We want you to wear this for all your runs this Term so we can provide you some insightful feedback. Fletch from Running Science is happy to answer any questions here runningsciencerozelle@gmail.com and has kindly provided these tips for best setup

1. To first get the pod calculating distance correctly do the following

1.1 When you do a 5k run measure it using your watch. Then when you sync your pod you can hit the PENCIL and update the k number.

This will calibrate the pod for you.

2.0 The pod will continue to record data when you walk around in the shoe

2.1 Don`t be overly concerned about distance and pace–The pod is more useful to understand your foot strike and heel strike percentages and also your stance times

3.0 The pod will not activate unless your activity goes for longer than 6 minutes (so with intervals and track work there may also be some discrepancies)

Please continue to use your pods and sync them as much as possible. The amount of kinematic data that these pods capture is enormous..So remember that when you are syncing the pod there is a lot of important information being captured that may not all be visible on the user interface on your phones,

Cheers

Fletch

Please see below some Generic Information on POD Use and Setup

The team at Milestone POD and Running Science have teamed up with RUNLAB for Term 2 to offer those that agree to the below instructions a FREE POD and the chance to take part in a large scale gathering of data. In week 1 of Term 2, your coaches will offer you your POD (if you are a A group runner and want to take part) and let you know when to start using them. Then later in the Term we will look at the information collected which will allow us to give further training adaptions. This really is a very exciting reward for those selected runners and in the future we look to extend an offer to all those interested. Please only take a POD is you agree to use it as below.

GETTING STARTED

Insert Battery:

Step 1: Remove the Pod from the silicon holder.

Step 2: Unscrew the back plate counterclockwise and remove.

Step 3: Place battery “+” side up in the Pod (so you can see the + when the battery is inside).

Step 4: Replace the Pod’s back plate by rotating clockwise. Make sure to align the small nob so the plate will fit snuggly. Everything will be aligned if on correctly.

Step 5: Look for the LED to flash on, confirming you’ve successfully installed the battery!

Step 6: Pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Lace it on: (RIGHT SHOE)

The Pod sits inside a flexible silicon holder. To connect the Pod to your shoe, remove the Pod from the Silicon sleeve, unlace your shoe almost all the way and then re-lace your shoe threading the laces through the sleeve in an “X” to connect securely to your foot. Make sure the “nub” is pointed towards your toes. Once you lace the shoe reinsert the Pod snugly into the sleeve and voilà!

To ensure the most accurate reading, lace the Pod 2-3 strings from your toe.

The MilestonePod can be used on all terrains from the treadmill to the trails and it works in the rain or snow.

Pair your Pod:

Before your first run, make sure to pair your Pod with the MilestonePod App (available on iTunes and GooglePlay). It will prompt you to download the latest and greatest firmware. This will take about 5 minutes, please refrain from using your phone while it is loading.

POD USAGE:

  • To start tracking, simply start your run or walk. From the moment you start your run or walk, the MilestonePod automatically starts tracking your distance. We look for your step count to go above a cadence of 100 steps per minute for 6 minutes or more before we officially start tracking a run (we go back to the very beginning of the six minutes when counting your run). If you go below a cadence of 100 for less than six minutes (stop to tie your shoe, take a drink, etc) then we remove the stop time and combine the sessions on both sides of the pause. If you stop during your run for more than 6 minutes, the MilestonePod will assume your run/walk is over. If you continue running, then you will see two separate runs in the app.
  • No need to run with your phone. Just remember to sync with your phone when you are done. To sync, open the MilestonePod App and swipe down. Make sure your Pod is within 30 feet during the sync. Also, make sure your Pod is not in sleep mode when syncing. If the Pod is idle for more than 30 minutes, it will go to sleep. Just shake the Pod to wake it up.
  • Pod tracks: distance, pace, duration, cadence, stride length, stance time, footstrike, Runficiency, calories, weekly miles, monthly miles, and overall shoe mileage.
  • To calibrate your Pod, go into the “My Runs” screen and view a run. Click on the pencil icon next to the distance and insert the correct distance of the run.  This will update your unique algorithm in the Pod and make your Pod more accurate for your running form.
  • Double tap the Pods display to view the total shoe mileage.
  • When the time has come to get new shoes, you can reset the Pod from the MilestonePod App and transfer it to a new pair of shoes.
  • The battery should last about the duration of a pair of shoes. We recommend replacing the battery when you change shoes.
  • The Pod MUST be used with the MilestonePod App.
  • The Pod can hold 20 hours of run data, but we recommend syncing after every run to view the data.
  • You must be connected to the internet to sync with the App.
